Love

"If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.  If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing."              - 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 NIV These same verses are worded this way in The Message version of the Bible:  "1 If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. 2 If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing." The American way isn't the way of Jesus

The American "Way," or the American "Dream" is pounded into our brains from such a young age in this country.  We are meant to built ourselves on our successes, and boast and brag about how well we are doing.  We are supposed to make these great lives for ourselves and our families, with the stars and stripes waving behind us.  Don't get me wrong, this great countries has many positive things about it!  But, the image we are supposed to have of ourselves here is not how we are called to live our lives through Christ. Our image is not supposed to be based on the outward appearance of our success.  We are not supposed to hold ourselves up on ourselves, being in constant competition with those around us.  The American Dream is the opposite of how Jesus calls us to live our lives. Today, I was listening to K-Love, and the Sidewalk Prophets' "To Live Is Christ" came on.  The first verse is what made me start to think of this today: "If I rise

Blogging has always been something I have considered doing, but never actually started. I want to write about varying topics.  There will be days that I write about current events, Bible passages, a cause, or something I have noticed in the world around me.  Though there will be multiple topics that I cover, everything I write will be something that I care about, something that interests me. Since I am a college-age student, I will write about some things that relate to that. Since I am a college student not living on a college campus however, everything I write about-everything I am surrounded by-is not college life.  I'll write about much more than just the typical "I live at my college, am surrounded by way too many people, and am completely lost" posts I have read on the Odyssey.  Life after graduating high school is no doubt a confusing time.  Especially if you are one of the people that stop the activities they participated in throughout all of high school.  Lot
